Company picnics and other work-related social events can be breeding grounds for workplace affairs. If you value your marriage or relationship, always accompany your husband or boyfriend to every work-related social function that wives and girlfriends are allowed to attend. That includes office parties, appreciation dinners, and yes, the company picnic.
If there’s any doubt in your mind about why you should go with him to such events, the facts below speak for themselves:
- A study by VAULT.com found that nearly half of the American work force has been romantically involved with someone on the job.
- The workplace now ties with the internet as being the #1 place where cheating spouses and significant others find willing partners with whom to have an affair.
- A survey conducted by a private investigation firm found that found that an affair with a co-worker is more likely to be initiated at a company-sponsored social event.
As an infidelity expert who has researched and written about workplace infidelity for years, and consulted with numerous women who were the victims of workplace affairs, I’m all too familiar with how office romance can take root and escalate out of control. I’ve seen wives and girlfriends totally distraught from the devastation of a cheating husband or boyfriend's workplace affair.
That’s why I strongly suggest that whenever possible, women should always attend company picnics, office parties, and other social events at their spouse of significant other's job.
Safeguard Your Relationship and Discourage Workplace Affairs
You should never pass up an opportunity to go social events like the annual company picnic, if his employer allows wives or girlfriends to attend. Your being there can discourage a workplace affair in four important ways:
1. Short-Circuit a Budding Office Romance - He'll think twice about amorously approaching that co-worker he's been flirting with, or secretly admiring all year.
2. Keep Predatory Co-Workers at Bay - By making your presence known, predatory female co-workers will be less inclined make a play for him. Female workmates will also be less likely to respond to any advances he makes if it’s obvious that he's already attached.
3. Stop Him from Sneaking off for Sex - One survey found that it was not uncommon for employees to sneak away from company-sponsored gatherings to have sex. Your being there will keep his libido in check.
4. Avoid Alcohol Induced Affairs - Alcohol is a major contributing factor to inappropriate behavior at job-related social events. Your presence there will help keep him from drinking too much and doing something he may later regret.
If You Already Suspect He's Having a Workplace Affair
What if you suspect that he's already involved in a workplace affair? Attending the annual company picnic willgive you a chance to find out if what you suspect is true. If he's romantically involved with one of his co-workers, their behavior or body language will give them away. But knowing what to look for is the key.
